United We Serve: Sounders FC & Seattle Bank at United Peoples Farm

United Peoples Farm got a shot in the arm from the Sounders FC and Seattle Bank’s United We Serve Program!

Team and bank supporters, fans, volunteers, farmers, and Tilth staff, joined with two Sounders FC players; Josh Ford and Roger Levesque, to make a good day better with work on the composting piles, pulling weeds, moving rocks, and finishing off the irrigation trenches out in the East field.

Seattle Tilth’s Chris Iberle did great work coordinating the visit from the Sounders FC and Seattle Bank’s “United We Serve” team, and staff members and farmers worked on preparing the fields for the coming winter months.

Seattle Parks & Recreation’s Parks Urban Food Systems (PUFS) representative Becca Fong was on hand also to check in and help introduce and answer questions about the partnerships and programs that Parks and Tilth are currently engaged in.

Sounders FC United We Serve community enhancement program in partnership with Seattle Bank, is a monthly side-by-side player and fan volunteer service program. The program provides support for grassroots community based leadership service projects that impact our local community. These projects are led by the Sounders FC fans, supporters, youth soccer players/coaches and civic  organizations.

The staff, farmers, and community of United Peoples Farm, as well as all the Tilth community would like to thank Seattle Bank, the Sounders, volunteers, and all of our supporters for their continued work at the farm making this program happen!

See you again soon.

About United Peoples Farm

Seattle Tilth is partnering with Burst for Prosperity to help refugees, immigrants and other low-income individuals overcome obstacles to creating small farming businesses. Seattle Tilth Farm Works is a product of many minds and much work from around the country, ALBA, Growing Power, Sweetwater Organics, New Entry Farms, Compost Cab, Feed Denver, DJ Caveman Motivation, and many others. Our work is part of THE work in the food revolution. We are creating a regional “farm incubator” at Red Barn Ranch called the United People’s Farm. The goal of this program is to help individuals and families become financially independent, apply their experience to farming and other related businesses and increase farmland and access to healthy local food.
